The Galileo G-102MD2 catadioptric telescope is Galileo's most popular telescope, and for good reason. No where can you find a telescope that is so easy to use, has so many features, so many accessories, and with so much quality for the price. Take your Galileo G-102MD2 outside at night, point it north, set the deluxe latitude adjuster to your latitude (yes, we give you a list of the latitudes of all major cities), turn on the fully motorized mount, and point the telescope at any object in the sky. Congratulations, your Galileo G-102MD2 is now tracking that object through the sky, and will continue to do so all night long!
The Galileo G-102MD2 is mounted on Galileo's fully motorized German Equatorial Mount. The mount is electronically driven in both axis; right ascension and declination. At rest the mount will automatically track to the west at 1x sidereal speed. The included hand box controller controls the scope in all 4 directions and features 4 speeds: 2x sidereal, 8x sidereal, 64x sidereal, and Slew (Slewing moves the scope 3° per second). The electronic mount can be run on battery power (8 AA batteries) or with the included AC adapter. It also features a deluxe latitude adjuster for proper polar alignment. The Mount is attached to a very sturdy, fully adjustable, pre-assembled metal tripod with retractable rubber feet. The tripod also features an accessory tray with slots to place 4 1¼″ eyepieces or lenses. Additionally, the Galileo Color Filter Wheel is included enabling the user to quickly switch between 2 color filters (Planetary & Nebula) by simply rotating the dial on the CFW. The filters are universal 1¼″ so users can remove and replace filters of their choice. The CFW can hold up to 3 different filters at one time. The optical tube assembly attaches to the mount by an adjustable tube clamp which in combination with the adjustable counter balance weights ensures easy fluid movement of the telescope at all times. The telescope features heavy-duty primary and secondary mirror cells, and a catadioptric correcting lens for a greater focal length in a shorter optical tube assembly. The telescope tube assembly is finished out with a large 2″ format focus tube. 2″ to 1¼″ adapter is included as well.
The Galileo G-102MD2 optical tube assembly features a catadioptric design providing an 1100mm focal length (catadioptric correcting lens is fully multi-coated). The Primary mirror is 102mm's in diameter and features a heavy duty mirror cell with push / pull collimation screws. The primary mirror is fully aluminized with 92% reflectivity and has a Silicon Monoxide Quartz overcoat which protects the coating. The 102mm diameter mirror provides a resolving power of 1.14 arc seconds. The secondary mirror has an obstruction of approximately 25% linear (approximately 6% of the total area). The optical tube assembly is diffraction limited at λ4 (¼ wave in Sodium light). The finder scope is Galileo's CIR electronic finder, which is similar in design to the "Tel Rad" finder, which helps by getting the observer behind the telescope without losing the surrounding field of view when targeting objects. Included with the Galileo G-102MD2 are an 1¼″ 6.8mm to 16mm zoom eyepiece (42° apparent field of view @ 6.8mm), an 1¼″ 20mm eyepiece (52° apparent field of view) and a 3 element Astroscopic 3x Barlow.
